The old town

What does the old town offer?

In the old town you will find a variety of cafés, shops and cultural offerings. For example, you can have a cup of coffee or lunch at Café Sølle, StudieStuen or Nelle's. You can also visit the biweekly farmer's market on the historic Sortebrødre Torv on Wednesdays and Saturdays, or check out all the other interesting things in the neighbourhood such as the Thumbelina sculpture, the Charity School, Hans Christian Andersen's House and the Museum TID. You can also go shopping in the various shops, such as the museum shop Kramboden. The possibilities are endless - simply get going.

Which area does the old town cover?

The Historic Quarter covers a relatively large area in Odense's city centre: From Nedergade and the beautiful Paaskestræde, to Hans Jensens Stræde and all the way up to Hans Christian Andersen Square by Odeon. The Hans Christian Andersens quarter is part of the old town, and covers the area immediately around the museum.

A photogenic neighbourhood

The old town also contains several beautiful and very photo-friendly spots. For example, you can walk down Paaskestræde - a street beautifully adorned with flowers in the summer and leading directly down to the river Odense. You can also stop by the Hans Christian Andersen gable painting by Don John, which adorns the wall at Bangs Boder no. 26. The obvious place to get a beautiful picture is of course also in the Hans Christian Andersen Quarter, where you'll find many small, fine and colourful houses that exude lots of history and charm.
